Karachi: Six members of a Bannu family were killed, and four others wounded after the roof of their substructure house collapsed in Karachi’s Gullhan-E-Maymar area late Saturday night, The news reported.
Police said 10 people were caught under the rubble after the roof gave way. The work was underway to strengthen the structure, made by an overlay when the roof collapsed. The roof could not carry the weight of sand and gravel.
Following the tragic incident that took place in the Afghan camp area, the residents of rescue teams called for help. The locals immediately pulled out 10 wounded people from the waste, and rescuers took them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, of which six of them – all girls aged three and 15 – were declared dead.
Police said that after a tile bar of the roof fell, six girls were killed while four other people suffered injuries. The family belongs to Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A statement from the District West police identified the deceased as seven-year-old Nasreen, 15-year-old Sadia, three-year-old Ayesha, eight-year-old Cainat, eight-year-old Aishal and nine-year-old Sanodia. The wounded were identified as Mikail, 40, Nasira, 37, Noman, 3 and Asif 7.
Station House Officer (SHO) Agha Asad from Gulhan-E-Maymar Police Station confirmed the death of six people in the incident.
Sindh Minister of Chief Murad Ali Shah expressed grief over the tragic roof collapse event. Sindh CM offered prayers for the deceased’s forgiveness and expanded his condolance to the grieving family and asked for patience and strength for the deprived.
