Skyeseur Sanders expresses gratitude for Trump’s support during NFL Draft Slide

As the Shedeur Sanders continued his unprecedented fall in the NFL draft last month, President Donald Trump went to social media to express his support for quarterback.

“I was really grateful. I was really grateful for that,” Sanders, 23, told journalists on Saturday.

“Included him there are a lot of fans, many people in barbershops, a lot of hairdressers, a lot of fans of me and of my craft and of my family who were there to support. I was just grateful that I generally had that foundation. As humans we could all come together as one.”

Cleveland Browns chose Sanders with the 144th total election in the fifth round and Sanders will compete for the start -quarterback job.

Sanders is one of five quarterbacks on the guard schedule and the team doesn’t have a clear starter. Deshaun Watson jumped an Achilles in January for the second time after he underwent an operation on the same late in October 2024. His status of the upcoming season is in doubt.

Browns acquired Kenny Pickett in a trade with Philadelphia Eagles and signed Joe Flacco for one year’s contract before the NFL draft. With the additions of the third round pick Dillon Gabriel and Sanders to an already packed quarterback room, it’s left to see who’s the week 1 nodded.

Sanders and Gabriel took the field for the first time as members of Browns under the team’s first rookie mini stamp on Friday.
