Sky Glass Air Vs Sky Glass Gen 2
We reviewed Sky Glass Gen 2 earlier this year, scoring 4 stars out of 5 thanks to its improved brightness, more effective local attenuation and addition of game features over its predecessor, Sky Glass Gen 1.
However, the Sky Glass Air seems to offer a cheaper alternative with a competitive level of features compared to its step-up siblings.
Both TVs use a QLED panel and support HDR10. For games, both sets run on 4K, 60Hz and support Auto Low Latency Mode (Alm) and of course both sets Run Sky Os as their smart TV platform.
But Sky Glass Gen 2 offers Dolby Vision HDR support used by some of the best TVs, such as LG C4 for a more dynamic image, as well as 3.1.2 Channel Speaker System that supports Dolby Atmos, with an external sound beam that houses the front three speakers.
The Sky Glass Air on the other hand only offers HDR10, does not have the same local damping in the panel for strong contrast and comes with a 2.0 speaker system built-in, which means it does not have the same powerful sound. It also supports Dolby Audio, but not atmos.
Sky Glass Air: Better Bang for Your Buck?

The most important thing to look at here is price difference. If we take, say, the cheapest 48-month payment option with the 55-inch model with Sky TV Essential included, you look at paying £ 25 per day. Month for Sky Glass Air vs £ 34 per Month for Sky Glass Gen 2. It is a difference of £ 108 per Year; Not an insignificant amount!
Paying in advance for the TVs and the price difference is even bigger. For the largest 65-inch model, Sky Glass Air costs £ 649 compared to £ 1,199 for 65-inch Sky Glass Gen 2: A Massive £ 550 Gap!
Although Sky Glass Air may sacrifice some features, it has the potential to be better value than its step-up siblings if you are not obsessed with absolute top-tier image quality. The air may miss the better built -in sound system, but with £ 550 stored, you can get one of the best sound beams instead and have lots of changes.
