Sony has revealed its first ever wireless match, the Code Name Project Defiant, and it will be released in 2026.
Project Defiant is advertised during PlayStation’s June State of Play, designed for a variety of match games and can be used wirelessly or wired for PlayStation 5 and PC.
“This slim new controller will give players more flexibility to play their favorite match games, whether wireless with the innovative PlayStation Link technology that provides ultra-low latency or through a cable connection on PS5 or PC,” said Edwin Foo, vice president, product development, SIE, in a PlayStation blog.
Project Defiant has a high quality digital stick specially designed by Sony to become interchangeable restrictor ports (square, circle and octagon) for the stick, buttons with mechanical switches and a touch pad like the one found on the wireless dualSense.

The controller also boasts a robust, ergonomic design for long game sessions, has a storage room for restrictor ports for convenience and a PS -Link USB adapter.
Like the DualSESE Wireless Controller, Project Defiant also supports the possibility of wirelessly awakening the user’s PS5 by pressing and holding the PS button on the upper side of the device.
As mentioned earlier, the input timing has been refined thanks to Sony’s PS Link Wireless Technology, but there is also an option for players to connect to play using a wired USB-C connection.
Sony has also confirmed that the combine is coming packed with a Sling Carry case that includes a handle gap to keep the digital stick secure so players can take hardware on the go.
Since Project Defiant is just a code name, we are probably learning the name of the battle stick closer to the launch.
