- A new leak suggests that Sony WF-1000XM6 will soon arrive
- There may be a small fine tuning with regard to the dimensions
- It’s two years since Sony WF-1000XM5 earplugs launched
We have recently seen the flagship Sony WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones launched, but what about the wireless ear plug equivalents? Well, a new leak suggests that the Sony WF-1000XM6 is not far away from becoming official.
According to the Walkman blog (via notebookcheck), import documentation has emerged that mentions the Sony WF-1000XM6 earplugs by name-there describes them, something weird, like “headphones without a frame”.
We don’t get too much in the way of details here, but there is a reference to the charging case in the documentation, and we get the dimensions of the earbuds: It looks like the new couple will be slightly smaller than the Sony WF-1000XM5.
The dimensions listed in the leak are 84 mm x 70 mm x 55 mm for Sony WF-1000XM6, which is compared to 99 mm x 66.4 mm x 53 mm for Sony WF-1000XM5, but we do not get any hints for a redesign here.
Will the price be right?
Our list of what we want to see from Sony WF-1000XM6 earplugs, mentions better noise cancellation, improved connection, better battery life, an upgraded IP assessment, more color settings and (of course) a cheaper price.
Go to our Sony WF-1000XM5 review and you see the earplugs launched at a starting price of $ 299.99 / £ 259 / AU $ 499. However, it was back in July 2023, and the tech industry and the world have generally changed quite significantly since then.
It does not appear that another July launch is likely to be for 2025, but based on the manufacturing phases mentioned in these import filters, the earplugs should break the cover in the coming months – so probably before the end of the year.
Each time the Sony WF-1000XM6 appears, they will meet a fierce competition in what is one of the most crowded categories in tech. We are still waiting for AirPods Pro 3, for example, but they may not show up until next year.
