Sony rolls a free software update for its flagship Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones that add new features and there is also one to Sony WF-1000XM5 earplugs.
The update is version number 5.0.2 for WH-1000XM5 and 2.0.2 for WF-1000XM6, and both updates are installed via the Sound Connect app. You need to make sure your headphones are fully charged as the update can take as long as an hour to complete.
The good news is that it is an update worth waiting for.
Sony WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM5 UPDATE: What’s new?
The major changes are improvements to fast access and to stage-based listening modes with YouTube music and Apple Music, and there is a new low-latens Bluetooth connection method along with the existing stable connection and sound quality options that may be good for games and watch video.
Sony also says the updates ensure that ‘Capture Your Own Voice under Call’ features works across all the surrounding audio controls. There are new languages for the voice controls and a warning about water damage for over-ear ‘USB port.

- Adds moisture detection to USB Type-C terminal
- Improves system software safety functions
- Improves the general achievement
