- Sony launches new ier-Ex15c wired buds for $ 29.99 (approx. £ 22 / AU $ 45)
- USB-C connection with line remote control and microphone
- Four colors and three ear tip sizes
If you are looking for a simple and straightforward set of very affordable earplugs, Sony may have it. The new Ier-Ex15C ear plugs are wired USB knobs with an in-line remote control, a built-in microphone for calls and a herd-resistant cable.
There are four colors to choose from, and according to the theme, they have non-nonsens names instead of smart marketing creations: the color choices are black, white, blue and pink.
Best of all, they are really cheap: just $ 29.99. That’s about £ 22 / AU $ 45 before tax. It’s a little more than Apple’s Earpods, but I prefer Sony’s shape and fit.
No battery means no battery anxiety
Sometimes simple is better: If you are scatterbrained as I am and continue to forget to charge your wireless buds, the presence of a good old -fashioned cable means the difference between tunes and no tunes. And the USB-C cable must work with virtually any sound source.
The buds are small and lightweight, with three ear tip sizes for a safe fit and the Remo-Remove Handle Volume, Play/Pause and Microphone.
The drivers here are 5 mm. Sony says they deliver rich bass and clear vocals, and I’ve listened to enough music on enough set of budget Sony over the years to expect these to sound fine for the money you spend. Of course, there are better wired earplugs out there, but even our current affordable choice of the best wired earplugs costs three times more than these Sony.
Ier-Ex15C earplugs are cheap, cheerful and colorful, and sometimes that’s all you need. They are available from Sony and the usual retail stores.
