- Rumor History Requirements 28 May Notice ‘Confirmed’
- New launch will be an e-mount mirror-free camera, possibly with tilting EVF
- Two camera models recently registered by Sony in China
Is Sony announcing a new camera? Or maybe even two? The evidence points in that way, although the details are extremely thin on the ground.
Sony Alpha Rumors has today updated a short news story and added ‘Confirmation’ that the company is revealing a new e-mount mirror-free camera on May 28, 2025. What the camera may be, the story hardly speculates it says it will not be a successor to the Sony A7 IV.
We have long suspected that a new Sony A7 model is on the way and the fact that the price of the current Sony A7 IV, which was released back in 2021, has recently fallen to detect low, strongly suggests that something is in the offers. So we still expect a new baseline frame model from Sony to be announced in year-just may not be as soon as May 28.

While the play is light on detail, Sony Alpha Rumors’ Story mentions that the new camera may have a reworked ’tilting EVF design’. Vipling of viewing is a rarity on mirror-free cameras, but we have seen them before-most notable on the 2018-free Panasonic Lumix GX9.
The GX9 has a compact design of range style where letting the viewfinder to tilt up makes it more comfortable to use, so maybe Sony’s rumored camera will have a similar compact body. Sony has released lots of APS-C-Mount cameras with this kind of design over the years, such as the A6500 and A6100. Could the model allegedly be announced on May 28 something new in that line?
But Sony News doesn’t stop there. Another story about Sony Alpha rumors apparently reveals that Sony recently detected two new cameras in China: One on April 21 and another on May 9. Both models will contain Wi-Fi with double ribbon, but the first will be manufactured in China, while the second will be manufactured in Japan.
If the requirements of May 28 are true, one of these cameras is likely to be announced that day. Could the other also be revealed at the same time, or will it be retained until the fall, another popular time of the year for new cameras launched?
We are waiting to report on any specific news or additional rumors, but in the meantime let’s know what you would like to see from Sony’s revelations in the comments below.
