Sony has submitted details of the Sony WH-1000MX6 headphones and it seems that they could improve the current model, Sony WH-1000MX5, in two important ways: in how they are built and how they sound.
The application is with US FCC, as seen by The Walkman Blog, and although it does not go into detail, there are some interesting pieces of information about Sony’s 2025 flagship over-Ears.
Sony WH-1000XM6: What’s new in 2025?
WH-1000XM6 is described in the archive as one Wireless noise reducing stereoheads And it comes with the same battery voltage as the current model-although it does not necessarily mean the same amount of playing time, for the same voltage can deliver different milliampers in different variants.
Bluetooth this time is Bluetooth 5.3 with Bluetooth Le, even if it doesn’t specify whether it means Bluetooth Le Audio or just a standard low -energy connection to control from the app and so on. If it is the former, it can also mean Auracast support-which seems likely as it has so far been a major trend in headphones this year.
One of the interesting details of the archiving is what looks very much like a redesigned hinge. It’s not something we would normally be too interested in, but we’ve received emails from readers if the XM5 headphones broke at the hinge and the fragility of that section has been talked about in headphone forums and subbreddits.
There is no indication of an official launch yet, but the FCC archive’s confidentiality expires in July 2025, so a summer launch seems likely.
Despite their excellence, the Sony XM5 does not top our list of the best headphones in their different categories-not because they are bad, but because the Sony WH-1000XM4 was so good, still exists and now is much cheaper too. The XM5 arrived at a higher price, and was not ‘rushing out and upgrading’ better. Hopefully, Sony has some surprises for us with the 2025 model that makes it a clearer must-have purchase.
