Sony seems to be launching new headphones (probably the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones) according to two recent product submissions with the US ‘FCC and Singapores IMDA.
While the device is not called the XM6 explicit in neither filing-in the place both archiving it is equally easy to remember the YY2984 unit looks like a terrible mass suggests that it is actually a new entry in Sony’s flagship headphone line.
We say few details because short -term confidentiality agreements prevent these regulatory agencies from sharing all except the most basic specifications and a few charts of the upcoming products. This means that we are still in the dark with many details and do not have a clearer picture until Sony officially shows it.
When we say that from what little info we have can start painting a picture of what the XM6s could be able to and when we might try them for ourselves.
What do we know about Sony’s new headphones?
1. The release date may be close to
While none of the archives tease a precise release date for the new Sony headphones, they at least suggest that we are no longer waiting to try these cans for ourselves. This is because the confidentiality of FCC’s filing is set to expire in July this year, at which time more accurate details of the device would be revealed to the public and pamper any surprise that Sony has in store.
As such, we expect the new headphones to land once before then in the first half of 2025. Previous Sony headphones have launched months prior to this expiration date so we could be on the field for an April or May release. However, your guess is as good as ours when it comes to nailing things further.
2. Quick charging and Bluetooth 5.3
Due to confidentiality, many specifications are still a secret, but we have collected a few details from the archives. First, support for quick charging, as we’ve seen from Sony headphones before with a referral to 9V charging along with 5V, is no word about what capacity the battery has to help give us into its runtime.
However, we have seen that the new headphones are set to get Bluetooth 5.3, one step up to 5.2, used in the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones to deliver a more stable and energy efficient connection. While it is initially disappointing that the headphones do not support the latest Bluetooth 5.4 standard, they are more aimed at commercial and smart home internet for things products. The benefits it offers would not do much for the XM6s, sonically.
3. Possibly no driver change
This one is hard to judge, but as the Walkman blog also suggests, the charts over the WH-1000XM6 appear to show a driver size unchanged from its predecessor-30mm. Compared to the 40mm drivers in the XM4s, the smaller hardware in the XM5s to a more detailed and tighter sound, so while it is probably not much, will change the audio head between the XM6 and what came before, it will not necessarily be A bad thing.
