Sophie Cunningham said last week that she would probably not see any of the WNBA final to distance herself from “toxicity” in the league this last season. On Tuesday Indiana Fever Guard confirmed that she had not seen the first two matches in the series.

Cunningham was surprised to hear that Las Vegas-Esians had taken a 2-0 lead over his former team, Phoenix Mercury as he discussed the final during the latest episode of her podcast, “Show me something.”

“I really just need a break from it. Good luck to the one who wants to win, I’m honestly indifferent to who wins this final. And I don’t – I want to be quiet. I stop myself.”

Last week, Cunningham stated that she would probably not see the final, quoting the “drama-filled” season that she and her fever-teammates had to endure.

“I don’t even know if I should see. I’m over it. I need a break from the toxicity of WNBA. It’s been a drama-filled season for several reasons,” she said. “I’m drained.”

In addition to the number of injuries that plagued the fever, including Cunningham’s own seasonal ending injury, the veteran guard was among the several WNBA players who publicly call the league and Commissioner Cathy Engelbert Over concern about being official and the ongoing negotiation agreement (CBA) negotiations.

“I’m just tired of our league. They have to step up and be better. Our head-to-bottom leadership needs to be held responsible. I think there are a lot of people in the positions of power in WNBA, as they may be really good business people, but they don’t know S — about basketball. And that’s Gotta change,” Cunningham said during her exit interview last week.

“I think it’s pretty shameful that she always does it to her, Cathy, when it shouldn’t have anything to do with her,” she added about Engelbert.

Despite her disappointment over the leadership of the league and official this last season, Cunningham talked a lot about her first season in Indiana.

“Our dressing room was so close and so funny and just so full of love that I have never been part of a dressing room like that, ever, and it was great. It was also the season from hell because of the injury error, but through it I am grateful. I think the relationship and the memories this team created will be one in a lifetime.”
