Sophie Cunningham is suffering scary right knee injury vs. Connecticut Sun

Sophie Cunningham suffered a frightening right knee injury that forced her to leave Indiana Fever’s fight against Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

Cunningham needed help to leave the court early in the second quarter after the sun’s Bria Hartley tumbled into her as he tried to get a passport.

Cunningham stepped up to give extra defense in the paint, and when Hartley turned the ball over to Lexie Hull, she lost her foot and fell directly into Fever Star’s right leg.

She immediately jumped around and grabbed her leg around her knee. Cunningham, with a towel over his head, was helped by teachers to the dressing room.

The fever confirmed that it was a right knee injury for Cunningham that was excluded for the rest of the game, per. Indy star. However, the severity of the injury has not yet been revealed.

Indiana does not seem to get away from the injury error recently, as the superstar guard Caitlin Clark stays out with a groin disorder.

The fever also announced on August 8 that Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, both guards for Indiana, have been excluded for the rest of the season 2025. Colson tore her left ACL, while McDonald has a broken bone in the right foot.

Cunningham left the game without scoring a point for the fever and missing all three of her field goals. She had a rebound and a turnover.

The fever hopes Cunningham’s injury is not as bad as it looks. Entering Sunday are the seventh seed team in the WNBA position of 18-16, with the top eight teams earning a trip to the playoffs.
