- Vado SL 2 has just launched
- It’s Specialized’s latest mainstream -electric bicycle
- It has a 520W battery and up to five hours of riding time
Specializing has today revealed the brand new alloy of its Vado SL 2 E-Bike, as the company says, offers an unprecedented combination of power, speed and range in its weight class.
We recently reviewed the extraordinary Vado SL 2 carbon and loved its excellent power, quiet riding and smooth handling. However, it costs $ 6,500 USD, £ 5,500 UK / $ 9,900 AUS, an eye-water amount, even for the best e-bikes on the market.
Fortunately, Specialized Now offers an alloying version of Vado SL 2 for a slightly more tasty £ 3,500/£ 3,800, with us and AU’s pricing to confirm. It gets you the new Vado SL 2 Legation 4.0 or 5.0 respectively. So what do you get in the 4.0 and 5.0 models over the more expensive carbon setting?
Specialized’s Vado SL 2 -Legation: On paper
The new 5.0 and 4.0 models are an ultra-lighting version of the aforementioned 6.0 carbon. They are very similar in Spec (hence the proximity in price). Both are available in either equipped or continuous configurations. They are both powered by Specialized’s SL 1.2 engine, which generates 50 Nm of power and is good for 25 kmh. Both have a 520WH-integrated battery that is classified for up to five hours of riding time (regardless of e-bike area warned) and both have Mastermind H3 with the handlebar of the handlebar.
4.0 and 5.0 have both aluminum frame and fork design as well as future shock 3.1 suspension. They also come with the same tires and wheels, and the same side and rear rack configurations for carrying luggage.
5.0 has Tektro TKD-148 brakes as opposed to Tektro HD-R285 brakes of 4.0. 4.0 has only 10-step leverage against 11-speed of 5.0, and the lights of 5.0 are also slightly better.
The big miss over the more expensive carbon version is obvious carbon frame. The engine is not so good either, and the suspension and brakes are also upset on the carbon model we have already undergone.
4.0 and 5.0 do not have a removable battery, just like the carbon model, which can be a exit for some. Otherwise, this specialized best option is still similar to those who do not want to fork out on their wildly expensive carbon model.
