- Can we expect more AI-generated content on Spotify in the future?
Spotify Audiobooks told by AI will increase when the streaming company is part of a new partnership with ElevenLabs, a company responsible for one of the best AI voting generators.
The expansion means that audiobooks on Spotify can now be told in 29 languages thanks to Elevenlabs’ excellent natural sounding speech technology. The AI software provides authors to control the narrator’s voice and intonation to create the best-sounding non-human sound.
AI-Narrated Audiobooks is nothing new for Spotify, the company has collaborated with Google Play Books to use similar software for the one who is the carrier book for writers who want to create audiobooks without hiring a narrator or doing it yourself. This partnership will increase the choice for authors and expand the amount of AI-Narrated content on the platform for consumers.
In the statement of partnership announcement Spotify said, “For writers looking for a cost -effective way of creating high quality audiobooks, digital voice narrative of ElevenLabs is a great opportunity.”
The statement continues to confirm that listeners will be able to distinguish between human voices and those generated by AI thanks to metadata information that will be visible on Spotify and all other retailers using the platform. The description also indicates, “This audiobook is told by a digital voice.”
Elenlabs sound on Spotify has started rolling out, so keep an eye on your audiobook descriptions to check if your narrator is human or not.
Is this good for the listener?
When CEO Daniel Ek said Spotify would ‘double’ on music in 2025, there was concern about what that could mean. With an expected Spotify HIFI release and AI’s threatening influence on all tech companies, 2025 will be a big year for the streaming service, and this partnership with ElevenLabs is the first preview of what to expect.
AI-generated sound becomes seriously impressive, so much that I know you’ve probably listened to an audiobook or a podcast expressed by artificial intelligence and not even noticed. There are obviously huge benefits of AI tale that allow writers to get their books to a wider audience without the need for extra resources, but will we as listeners really start listening to voice software?
Could the AI story be the first step towards the ‘double down’ on music, with a final goal for AI-generated sound in your Spotify playlist to help expand the music offer on the platform? After all, many of us can already listen to AI-Generated LO-Fi beats and other background noise without even noticing it.
Ai Audio is still in his infant, but it develops rapidly, and Spotify’s push to increase his audiobook offering by working with a large AI voice generation company could just be the beginning.
