- Spotify expands administered accounts for its premium family plan after a successful pilot drive
- Parents’ Guardian Managers will be able to activate controls for younger listeners, including explicit content filters and specific song restrictions
- It also adds an additional layer of protection to your individual Spotify -wrapped results
Spotify makes changes to its premium family plan and expands managed accounts (Music Streaming Service’s Premium accounts for younger listeners) to seven new locations, including the US, UK and Australia.
Managed accounts launched in three regions last year and later expanded to seven more. After the successful pilot driving, Spotify now brings it to another seven new territories: USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Although managed accounts have only been part of Spotify’s subscription ecosystem for a year, they have become a very requested function, thus the company’s decision to roll them out more widespread.
One of Spotify’s goals is to give listeners aged 13 and younger space to explore their own music taste and listen to their favorite artists with parental control in place. They can also take advantage of other popular features such as Playlist-Making, Daylist and the Renewed Discover Weekly, like any standard Spotify subscriber. However, interactivity functions come with some restrictions. E.g. Are Spotify messages age-excavated.
The expansion of managed accounts adds a layer of insurance for parents and guardians managing the premium family plan. They can activate an explicit content filter, limit specific artist and singing playback and hide videos and canvas videos with short shape that appears with songs.
Sounds all good, right? But if you ask me this is not even the best part.
Protecting your Spotify -wrapped results
As Spotify said in his message, “Every managed account comes with its own experience,” which means the days of fearing your kids hijacking your Spotify -wrapped results are over. It also means that younger listeners’ music recommendations are not mixed with that of the account manager, which holds both flavors separately, resulting in more accurate Spotify -wrapped readings.
The company signed its message by repeating its focus on promoting and maintaining individuality within premium family plans and said:
“At Spotify, we want to give parents and children the opportunity to explore music together, from introducing children to the same songs that you loved their age to help guide their individual discovery. Every child is different and every family’s journey is unique, so we have developed our tools to help nursing staff in a way that feels right to them.”
