- Spotify updates its Live Event feed with new venues now rolling out to both free and premium subscribers
- You can follow your favorite local live music spots and save them to your library so you never miss a concert
- It builds on Spotify’s Concerts Near You playlist with the aim of increasing ticket sales for smaller venues
Live music is about more than seeing your favorite artists in the flesh – the venue is an important part of the experience, and Spotify highlights this with its revamped in-app live events feed.
The feature has received a design upgrade and you can now follow your favorite venues and discover new live music spots you may have missed before, all of which will be saved to your library for easy access. The new feed has already started rolling out to users and can be used by both free and premium subscribers.
Building on its commitment to live music, Spotify’s new venues are designed to help promote venues big or small and ensure they’re packed to the brim with eager concertgoers. Senior Director of Live Music at Spotify, Rene Volker, goes into detail:
“iv music thrives when the right fans find the right ticket at the right time. By letting listeners follow venues directly in the app and by updating the Live Events feed daily to highlight highly relevant concert recommendations, we turn streaming intent into real attendance. This helps venues fill their seats and helps fans fill their calendars with concerts they love.”
Spotify’s new live events feed is updated daily and shows you concerts happening in your area “from weekend intimate gigs to just-announced global tours,” according to Spotify’s blog post. Not only will Spotify keep you updated with local music concerts, it will show you relevant concerts based on what music you stream and your favorite genres, so it’s completely tailored to your unique taste.
According to Spotify’s announcement, there are more than 20,000 venues listed globally that you can follow and add to your library. If you see a concert listed in the venues section that you like the sound of, you can click through to the event’s ticket page.
Spotify has long featured live music events, starting with its Concerts Hub in 2020, which the company later renamed what we now know as the Live Events section. Earlier this year, Spotify launched its Concerts Near You playlist, a one-stop place to stream music from artists touring in your area that also takes you to third-party booking sites to secure tickets.
My own feed is filled with high-capacity venues in my area, as well as smaller venues that are equally popular with live music fans. Currently, smaller independent venues have yet to have their own tabs in the new section, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the update, but there is room for expansion here.
