Spyagentet told to map court

Islamabad:

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the country’s top espion agency to inform it in a session in the camera about where a citizen, Omar Abdullah, who disappeared from Islamabad almost ten years ago.

The Capital Supreme Court, while noting that either the Deputy Director of Director or a sector commander for Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) could give the briefing, the authorities instructed to inform it before October 6 of which officer will appear.

An IHC bench consisting of senior Puisne -Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the order on Friday, while hearing a petition filed by Zainab Zaeem, wife of Omar Abdullah.

The judge said that ISI officers simply had to tell the court whether the person has been killed, gone abroad or is hiding. He added that it would be acceptable if five ISI officers appeared when the story of a single officer might not be sufficient.

“This is actually Parliament’s job to tackle the question of missing persons, but Parliament has closed his eyes. At one point, these questions will move against criminal cases,” he noted.

During the hearing, the court was informed that a RS5 million aid had been transferred to the affected family’s account. The Ministry of Defense and the additional legal lawyer presented the online transfer receipt to the court.

Justice Kayani also noted that financial compensation cannot facilitate family grief.

“The state is not missing money, but the problem will not be resolved this way. A person has been missed for 10 years and after 7 years a decision has been made.

“It has to be passed on where the missing person is. Is he in a prison in Afghanistan? It has to be clarified whether he is alive or dead,” he said.
