In a market where storage capabilities and speeds are constantly evolving to meet the needs of AI and Sky Infrastructure, another player has emerged with a bold offer.
TeamGroup has announced its entry into the 64TB SSD room with T-Create Master AI I5U U.2 PCIE 5.0 SSD, a high capacity drive built with enterprise work load in mind.
This launch comes about a year after Western Digital teased a similar PCIE Gen5 model for AI applications, and five years after Nimbus Data introduced the first 64TB SSD, Exadrive NL series.
Unlike consumer SSDS competing for a place among the best laptop drives, Teamgroup’s latest post is aimed at company environments.
With support for U.2 PCIE 5.0 interface and storage capacity that maximizes 64TB, the I5U is located as a tool for cloud-based databases and edge competence.
According to TeamGroup, it is “designed specifically for Sky Infrastructure and Database Applications” and optimized for requirements from “large language models” and intensive AI-driven workloads.
PCIE Gen5 has become a benchmark for future-proof performance in both consumer and business sectors, but claims such as “Ultra-fast PCIe Gen5 speeds with endurance in corporate quality” must be treated with caution.
Until third -party benchmarks emerge, it is difficult to evaluate the real world’s reliability and performance.
Previous efforts to identify the best SSDs based solely on theoretical flow have often ignored key factors such as thermal performance, latency during strain and sustained writing consistency, all critical in major implementations.
Team Group’s entry also arrives in the midst of a wider trend with high capacity SSDs affecting the market. From Soliktms 61.44TB D5-P5336 to Micron’s 6,144TB 6550 ION SSD, Competition in the Ultrahøj capacity segment is heated.
An element that remains unclear for Team Groups I5U is pricing. Business quality drives on this scale rarely come cheaply, but Teamgroup is known for valued options.
This raises speculation that its 64TB SSD may get closer to affordable prices than previous alternatives.
While it will be unlikely to ever replace the best external HDDs in terms of raw costs per day. Gigabytes, it signalizes that ultra-high capacity SSDs edges closer to wider adoption.
