Amazon makes huge changes to his four TV platform this year in a step that definitely comes to us from “What could go wrong?” Files.

A new report says four TV -Stick devices will be broadcast with a brand new operating system later in the year. The devices are currently running a changed version of Android, but the move will be to Amazon’s own Vega OS.

As a person who fears the inevitable problems that even a minor software or firmware change can cause, I’m not sure this will be a smooth transition with any mistake and incompatibility stamped from day one. And it will also reduce the flexibility of future brand -tv units.

What is Amazon doing with his four TV software?

According to well-informed TV-Tech author Janko Roettgers, Amazon is “Courting Major Publishers” to bring their apps to the new operating system: Unlike the current OS, Vega does not support Android apps and they cannot be transferred.

While Vega has not officially been advertised, it arrives in a new, non-duck TV streaming device later in the year according to Roettgers.

Vega is based on the Linux operating system and Roettgers discovered its existence in 2023. It already runs the Echo Show 5, Echo Hub and Echo site.

Roettgers says some big names are already on board. “I have been able to confirm that Paramount, Rakuten and BBC’s UKTV subsidiary are among the publishers who build TV apps using Kepler SDK,” the report said.

It does not appear that the move applies to four TVs from Amazon’s partners: They appear to move to Android 14, based on other documentation. Maybe this update will also come to existing four TV sticks and dice.

However, speculation sees this Android 14 movement meant that Vega was ditched appears to be wrong, at least according to Roettgers. The big danger here is that Amazon may end up releasing a new device that is inferior to the existing-with more limited app-supported, less well embedded features and greater chance of errors and problems.
