Alexander Skarsgård quit acting to join the military

Stellan Skarsgård believed that his son Alexander was trying to be rebellious when he walked away from acting to join the military.

The Thor actor recently sat down with his son at Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where the two had a chat about each other’s careers and best works.

Most of Stellan’s children incl It: Welcome to Derry famous Bill, Gustaf, Sam, Eija and Valter have followed in their father’s footsteps while choosing their careers.

Alexander also started his acting career at the age of 13, but left it to pursue a career in the Navy.

During the conversation, the 74-year-old asked his son: “You joined the military – did you do it in opposition to me, to provoke me?”

The Big Little Lies The actor innocently tried to convince his father that it was not a rebellion against the family, but he just wanted to choose his own path.

“Looking back, I don’t think it was a rebellion against you. But coming from a bohemian family, I thought, ‘I want to make my own way.’ The most extreme contrast would be going into the military. So it wasn’t a conscious ‘f*** you, dad’ thing.”

Stellan also admitted during the chat that he has always been proud of himself for not interfering in his children’s career decisions.
