- Latest Update for Windows 11 24H2 Packs A Pair of Smart Corrections To Players
- One of them is the crucial cure for some PC games that unlocked up
- The other solution is more exciting, but a vertical memory leakage can also be related to problems with some games
Windows 11 24H2 just got an important solution for players in its latest optional patch, and NVIDIA GPUs should now be more stable with the operating system as it is out of problems with certain PC games going down.
This is the KB5058499, which is a preview (optional) update and brings a ton of new features that I discussed yesterday.
More important than any of that for players, however, a few corrections are hidden away at the bottom of the release notes that I overlooked, and Windows latest was keen eyes enough to spot.
The most important cure here is a patch for the graphics in Windows 11 24h2, of which Microsoft observes: “Fixed: A problem in which some game titles do not respond after upgrade to 24h2.”
The mistake in question causes some games to just lock together when they are launched, an ugly glitch for affected titles.
As for the second remedy related to games, it is a more hardy, but it involves a memory leakage in the ‘Input Service’ which, according to Microsoft, affects the use of distance disk and other situations that are likely to be encountered by the average Windows 11 user.
However, Windows latest claims that this memory leakage may be the cause of input delay with the keyboard and mouse in some PC games as well – or at least that this error could be part of the reason for it.
This problem with input -delay can also provoke blue screen crashes with ‘memory control’ errors we are told, but it is basically guess that the fix implemented with this optional patch for Windows 11 is part of the cure here. However, this may be the case, and if so, this is a practical double-whammy of useful patching for players.
Analysis: Nvidia is not blamed (this time)
What is interesting here is that the blame for the error causing games to unlock Windows 11 24h2 was placed at the door of Nvidia by many. As Windows latest points out, even when Nvidia released a new graphics driver that cured ‘stability problems’ with Windows 11 24h2 – back in April – continued problems with games not responding and Team Green caught flak not to solve the situation.
Therefore, it turns out that this was a problem in the Windows 11 core (the central code for us) that Microsoft needed to think with, so those who vented their anger directly on Nvidia were not fair to the GPU manufacturer. Although it is said, it is understandable why people jumped into conclusions as Team Green has undoubtedly had enormous problems with its graphic drivers ever since the release of the latest Blackwell generation – and the thorny problems that are teasing these GPUs continue.
In any case, this will hopefully be the end of the case, at least as far as the 24h2-related crash goes (fingers and toes very tightly crossed). If you have suffered in the hands of these Bugbears, the only way you find out is by installing the optional update.
Of course, preview updates can be unstable self and potentially still buggy, which is why they are optional. So you can wait until this preview update will be the full cumulative update of June, which will be released on June 10th. Or, if one of your favorite games is bugged so it doesn’t work at all, you’ll probably risk it and get hold of the preview update for May right now.
