Rawalpindi:
The ongoing sugar crisis in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has only seen marginal improvement, with the market’s instability persistent.
On Monday, 600 sugar bags were delivered to Rawalpindi district by local sugar factories at the request of the administration. However, the limited stock was quickly consumed and did little to relieve the wider deficiency.
With over 18,000 grocery stores operating in the Twin Cities, the entire shipment was quickly acquired by wholesale dealers, which has almost no supply available to retail consumers. As a result, many grocery venues over Rawalpindi have depleted their sugar stock.
In the open market, sugar is currently sold to RS210 for RS220 per Kg, depending on the area. Despite the severity of the crisis, there is still no coordinated distribution mechanism between sugar factories, brokers, wholesalers and retailers.
High -level meetings held in Lahore and Islamabad Monday gave no action.
The wholesale of sugar has been suspended in the last 13 days, causing stock in most retail stores. These few stores that still have a share allegedly sell to RS210 per. Kg in key areas and up to RS220 per Kg in surrounding sites.
