Super tax under control in the Supreme Court

Islamabad:

The Supreme Court on Thursday investigated the process of introducing and approving the controversial super tax, with judges who questioned whether parliamentarians really considered public interests before adopting such measures.

A five-member constitutional bench led by justice Aminuddin Khan resumed the case of the collection of super tax. During the procedure, justice asked Jamal Khan Mandokhail about the right procedure to make a bill in parliament.

The taxpayer advisor claimed that decision -making and tax collection were completely separate domains. “Tax collections come from FBR [Federal Board of Revenue]If jobs are only to collect. Policyme rests on parliament. If I was a decision maker, I would consult experts to determine if a measure benefits or harms the public, ”he said.

Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi noted that MPs were elected by the people and must therefore be aware of their problems. “Has any parliamentarian ever made suggestions that keep public problems in mind? Debering committee bills, or simply passing them when they arrive?” he noticed.

The lawyer maintained that no tax experts have ever been invited to the National Assembly to evaluate the impact of a tax. He said the Minister of Finance has already expressed support for the super tax, but that the debate in parliament is lacking what occurs in committees.
