Suspect arrested after escape

Haripur:

A robbery suspect who was in demand by the Punjab police in several cases of abominable nature escaped while under custody of the Haripur police in a wounded state on Monday night. However, he was later reinforced after the police authorities swung to action during the early hours on Tuesday.

With regard to the incident, the District Police Chief of Service suspended four police officers on duty and ordered registration of a case against them.

Sources in the police department said the wounded suspect identified as Nasir from Gujranwala was arrested during a police meeting on Rangeela Road by the City Police on May 26. The dangerous dacoit was sought after by the Punjab police in different cases, including theft and robbery.

The defendant was undergoing treatment at District Headquarters Hospital last night, from which he escaped from police custody by ‘deceiving’ some on duty police, the sources added.

Shortly after his escape, police closed the entire district to arrest the accused who is accused. According to the sources, DPO issued orders to his subordinate police officers to arrest the defendants within 24 hours, otherwise they would also be suspended.

All border roads were closed afterwards by the field police team, and the defendants were finally re -starred near Taxila in the last hour of the night, the sources added. When resuming the defendants, reliable sources claimed that the defendants had escaped from police custody because of the local facilitator.

Due to the strong reaction from DPO, the defendant was brought back to the boundaries of the Haripur district through the local facilitator because the defendant was seriously wounded after the police meeting and could not escape from the hospital in custody of the police alone.

When he was contacted, spokesman for the Haripur police said the defendant is a story when at least 10 cases were registered against him in Haripur, Kamoke (Gujranwala) and Lahore police stations.
