The awards ceremony in Sydney, which was scheduled for December 17, has now been canceled after a horrific shooting that shocked the entire city.
The 2025 GQ Australia Men of the Year Awards was due to take place in the Overseas Passenger Terminal but organizers said the event would not take place.
However, they sent their thoughts and best regards to the victims, their families and all those affected by the tragedy.
The shooting also caused the cancellation of the Sydney premiere of Sam Worthington’s new film, Avatar: Fire and Ashes.
The red carpet event was expected to feature the actor, director James Cameron and other stars, but organizers said it would not go ahead out of respect for the people injured in the attack.
Police said in the case that the two men, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, opened fire near the Bondi Pavilion.
They used heavy weapons and targeted people in the area. In addition, 14 people died on the spot, and two more died later in hospital, including one of the shooters.
42 others were taken to hospital, including four children, while five people were in a serious condition, including two police officers.
For the uninitiated, organizers have yet to announce new dates for the GQ Awards or the movie premiere yet.
Sydney mourns the victims and tries to recover from the shocking events that rocked the city.
