A corridor connecting two buildings near Barri Imam Bargah in Karachi’s Kharadar area collapsed Monday and caught at least 22 people, rescuers said.
The roof of the corridor and a staircase constructed on top gave space, leaving residents of both buildings, including those on the upper three floors of a six-story structure that was unable to leave.
Rescue teams and police arrived on the stage shortly after the incident and launched an evacuation operation using snorkeling equipment.

So far, 11 people have been saved. No damage has been reported at this time.
The operation to extract the remaining trapped residents is in progress. The building was old and in a worsening state, which may have contributed to the collapse, rescue officials said.
Auxiliary efforts continue in coordination with relief services.
