- Taiwan is facing 2.8 million daily cyber ingress, mostly attributed to Chinese threat players
- China is reportedly spreading Pro-Beijing Incorrect information via 10,000 wizard accounts and 1.5 million fake positions
- Groups such as APT41 and Volt Typhoon are targeted at critical sectors; China denies all allegations of cyberattack
China’s cyberattacks and wrong information campaigns against Taiwan escalate as Red Dragon seems to detract from public confidence against the government in front of the Taiwanese 2026 local elections.
This is according to the Taiwanese National Security Agency (NSB), which recently presented a new security report in front of the country’s parliament, The Record reported. According to NSB, whose conclusions were quoted by the local media, public networks stood on average more than 2.8 million intrusions every day this year, an increase of 17% compared to the previous year.
In addition to penetration, China is also engaged in a major error information campaign that includes a “online witch army” that spreads fake news via social media and online forums.

The majority of these intrusions were attributed to the country’s aggressive western neighbor, which allegedly targeted critical infrastructure organizations, such as defense, telecommunications, energy and medical institutions.
“In addition to intelligence theft, these operations integrate the Dark Web, Internet Forum and Media channels to convey fabricated content,” NSB wrote in its report.
So far, NSB found more than 10,000 social media accounts used for this purpose that distributed more than 1.5 million false news posts. Many promote a pro-china attitude and lie about things like customs negotiations with the United States and various domestic policies.
For years, China has been one of the most active threat actors among Western government organizations next to Iran, North Korea and Russia. Its groups, such as Volt Typhoon, Salt Typhoon, APT41 and many others, were discovered several times compromising telecommunications companies, healthcare, software and other malware organizations.
Their goals vary from cyber espionage to disturbance, but China has always denied all involvements and any claims. Instead, it called the United States “the world’s largest cyber-bully” and even accused the NSA of orchestrating several attacks against its own critical infrastructure organizations.
