Peshawar:
The Tarbela Dam was opened on Saturday after an increase in the reservoir’s water level, according to officials, while Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a warning to warn of potential floods along the banks of the Indus River.
In a statement, PDMA warned that the release of water through waste roads would lead to an increase in the flow of the Indus River, with emission levels expected to rise between 260,000 and 270,000 CUSSCS.
The disaster control authority ordered district administrations to remain vigilant and monitor close to local populations living along the river banks.
Officials warned that the increased water flow could lead to flood -like conditions in low -lying areas next to the river.
Residents who lived near the Indus River, especially fishermen and livestock shepherds, were asked to move to safer grounds to avoid any risk that poses the rising waters.
PDMA also called on the public to remain vigilant and contact the guideline 1700 in case of distress or inappropriate situation.
To prevent any unfortunate incidents, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Irfanullah Mehsud issued a warning and urged people to stay away from the banks of the Indus River. The district administration confirmed that Spillways opened at 1 p.m. 12.30 Saturday.
A special appeal has been filed to residents of customer, Khairabad, Jabi Mandori, Shuangi, Mamakhel, Kahi and other surrounding areas: Avoiding the river is crucial to saving lives.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) predicted possible floods and increased water flow in the river Kabul and Indus due to rain from 13 to 14 July.
According to NDMA, a flood of low level in the river Kabul at Nowshera is expected. Increased water levels are also expected in the river Swat, Panjkoora and Nullahs due to rain.
People living in these areas are encouraged to adopt precautionary measures and avoid crossing streams and nullahs under rain.
They are also requested to download the Disaster Management app for NDMA for help and guidance.
