Islamabad:
The Tarbela Dam was opened on Saturday night after the water level reached 1,546 feet – 96% of its capacity.
With the opening of the emissions, the flow of water at the river Indus rose to almost 250,000 CUSSCS. Given the increase in power, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advised residents about adjacent areas to avoid walking near water channels.
Before the opening of Spillways, NDMA informed all relevant departments. It also called for residents to low -lying areas to remain cautious and cooperate with the local administration.
According to a statement from the provincial disaster control authority (PDMA) of Punjab on Saturday, the water level at the Mangla Dam was 1,205.25 feet and it was 63% full.
In the river Indus there was a low-level flood at Chashma Barrage, while the current at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu, Sukkur and the Kotri barriers were normal. On key points in the rivers Jhelum, Sutlej and Kabul the water flow was normal.
In important places on the Chenab River and its adjacent streams, the flow of water was normal. In the Ravi River, the water flow was normal at the main points, while its adjacent Basantar Nullah maintained a low-level flood.
There was no water flow in Major Hill Torrents in the Koh-E-Suleman area of Dera Ghazi Khan Division. The PDMA general director urged citizens to take precautionary measures in the Monsun season.
Section 144 has been imposed on rivers, channels and streams.
The authority has advised people not to swim in rivers, channels or ponds under any circumstances, the statement added.
