Tarbela water level falls dangerously low

Haripur:

The water level in the Tarbela dam has fallen to dangerously low levels, which poses a serious challenge for electricity generation due to lack of rainfall.

A continuous decrease in water inflow is detected at the dam due to the ongoing dry spell. Currently, the water level at Tarbela is 1450.85 feet, which is only 48 feet above the dead level of 1402 feet.

According to a spokesman, if the current situation persists, an additional decrease in the water level fears. Although all power production units at the dam are operational, electricity production remains limited. The influx of water in the dam is 177,400 CUSERCS, while the outflow is 151,800 CUSSCS. Despite the fact that all 17 power production units are functional, they only produce 1,413 megawatt electricity at the moment, well below their total generational capacity of 4,888 megawatts. Water storage is critically low.

Tarbela Dam’s full storage capacity is 1,550 feet, but the current level is almost 100 feet below this brand.

Water experts and officials from the Ministry of Energy have warned that if the weather conditions are not improved soon and the rainfall does not begin, water levels may fall further. This could not only affect irrigation, but also result in a significant reduction in power production.
