Islamabad:
The teaching community of the federal capital has greeted the Senate’s Standing Committee for Financing and Revenue Approval of the Income Tax (Other Change) Bill 2025 aimed at reintroducing critical tax relief for salaried individuals, especially teachers and researchers.
The Senate Panel, chairman of Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, approved the bill and focused in particular on reversing the recent tax burdens that had led to significant payroll for teachers.
This development follows the Federal Cabinet’s previous decision, dated March 26, 2025, to reintroduce the 25% tax discount for full -time teachers and researchers.
The discount had suddenly been interrupted four months before, which draws widespread criticism from the education sector. To respond to the committee’s approval, Fazal-E-Maula, chairman of the joint educational action committee teachers, praised the move as a “positive step”, but noted that more extensive measures were needed. “While the restoration of the 25% tax discount is appreciated, it is only a slight relief. The government has to go one step further and introduce an educational allowance,” he said. He also agreed to adapt teachers’ wages to them from other government employees in equivalent qualities.
Prof Danish Yaseen, Joint Secretary of Federal Government College Teachers Association (FGCTA), repeated similar feelings. “After restoration of the 25% discount, teachers now stand when they were in the past. But the government should consider further incentives as done in other countries. Teachers should not be burdened with financial concerns, only then can they promote a peaceful and focused class environment.”
