- Canon teases launch event for 9th September 2025 at
- Instagram teaser caption “Open your world for what’s next”
- The jerk of being Canon EOS C50, a direct rival to Sony FX3
A new Canon camera is landing and the company has just dropped a big tip about one of its features.
As we reported last week, Canon launches something tomorrow – something that looks very much like a compact new cinema EOS camera that is due to taking on Sony FX3. Prior to the launch (which you will be able to watch live on YouTube – roll down to watch the embedded video), the company has released an Instagram video photos, “Open your world for what’s next. 9.9.25”.
The video shows a side-on-one silhouette of the new camera that is interesting, but it is the choice of words in the caption that excites us even more. The use of “Open” seems a clear hint that this camera supports Open Gate video recording – using the entire surface of the image sensor.
Open Gate is appreciated by filmmakers and content creators because of its support for pruning video in any aspect relationship.
Despite rival Panasonic, which gives users Open Gate recording with several of its video cameras, such as the Lumix S1 II, the feature has not been available on a Canon camera before, so its recording here would be great news.
Come back tomorrow
Be sure to check back tomorrow to get detailed details of Canon’s new launch, which is joked to be called Canon EOS C50 and comes with a 32MP full-frame sensor and weight of less than 700 g (without objective or other attachments). You can watch the launch live using the embedded YouTube video below.
