Tennessee Softball Player’s Pitch Make History

A Tennessee Softball star settled into the NCAA Record Books.

Lady Volunteers Pitcher Karlyn Pickens took the haug on Monday and continued to throw the fastest pitch in Collegiate softball history. Pickens’ historic pitch happened in the sixth round of Tennessee’s game against Arkansas.

Her pitched height clocked at 78.2 km / h.

The Pickens’ previous top speed was 77 km / h, which bound her with former Tennessee jug Monica Abbott.

Abbott set the brand during 2012 National Pro Fastpitch game against Carolina Diamonds. Pickens had already thrown two seats this season reaching 77 km / h.

Pickens was asked about the special moment after Lady Volunteers’ 3-2 win over Lady Razorbacks.

“There were a lot of feelings. At first I was just super excited about celebrating it with my team. It’s far cooler to find out that way than finding out at home after the game,” Pickens said via Knoxville News Sentinel.

The pickens did not give up a hit through her 4.1 laps on the haug. She also beat six Arkansas hitters.

“And then it was a little emotional. All the work we’ve put into as pitching staff, anyone who helped train me – it was a really surreal moment. It was really special,” she added.

Pickens won the Sec Pitcher of the Year Honors last season. She has a 0.86 era over 89.1 laps.
