“Especially after having my second child, I was never able to be in a healthy weight that I could be on, whether it was my joints or blood sugar levels. It was just always something I was suffering from and many women actually go through this,” Williams said during a performance of “Today” Thursday.

Williams, 43, said that despite being an educated athlete, she fought to lose weight No matter how active she was. She said it started to take a toll on her joint.

“Whatever I did – run, go, I would go for hours because they say it’s good, I literally played a professional sport – and I could never go back to the place I needed for my health. So, after my other child, it just even got harder. Then I was like, ok, I have to try something else.”

Williams said she decided to be open about her journey to destroy the use of GLP-1 medicine for weight loss.

Serena Williams says the Super Bowl Halfime -look was not intended to shade ex, Drake: ‘I would never do it’

“A misconception is that it’s a shortcut,” she said to “Today.” “As an athlete and like someone who has done everything, I just couldn’t get my weight to the place where I needed to be in a healthy place – and believe me, I don’t take shortcuts.”

Williams told People Magazine Separate that despite her new look, her self -confidence level has never wobbled. Her decision to make a change was based on something completely different.

“I’ve never felt that pressure to maintain a specific look,” she said. “I always felt comfortable in any size, whether I was much heavier or not. I feel like my body did not like me at that weight. I was in pain in my joints and pain in different areas just because of the extra weight that I am not used to wearing when I had children.”

“But the size I was before was nothing wrong with it. It’s just not what I wanted. I just knew I wanted to be where I personally felt comfortable.”
