British tennis player Francesca Jones was taken off the field in a wheelchair on Tuesday after she collapsed on the ground in the middle of the match at the Copa Colsanitas tournament in Colombia.
The scary scene unfolded in the third set of her round with 32 matches. Jones, 24, prepared to earn against his opponent, Julia Riera from Argentina, When she appeared to lose her balance and stumble after throwing the ball into the air.

Jones fell on the ground where she stayed when officials ran for her help.

It was not immediately clear what caused the sudden breakdown, but Riera and medical staff picked up Jones and placed her in a wheelchair. Jones was forced to withdraw from the tournament and later went to Instagram to explain the reason for Tuesday’s scene.

“After winning the event in Brazil on Sunday, our total trip took over 24 [hours]With minimal rest and improvement from a long week. Bogota is known for its height and often takes a few days to adapt. Unfortunately at our arrival Monday afternoon, we were unable to practice due to rain, and that meant that apart from my low level before combat warming, my first exposure to the limited oxygen levels with a high intensity was my fight, ”she explained in a post to her Instagram stories on Wednesday.

“When the fight went, I worked hard to give myself the opportunity to stay competitive while trying to get used to the conditions, but gradually fought; blurred vision, which eventually led to collapse, without no cramping.”

Jones continued to explain that testing showed that her heart “worked a little too hard.” She noted that there were no long -term problems as a result of the incident.
“Bogota is one of my favorite events of the year and I hope to connect again in 2026 in different circumstances. After a few days of rest, I will continue to build on the improvements made to date this season. Thanks for the messages and the concern,” she concluded.
Jones was born with a rare genetic state Called ecttrodactyly ectodermal dysplasia, a condition that causes hands and feet to develop abnormally. She has seven toes and lacks a finger on each hand.

Despite the odds stacked against her, Jones has seen great success on the tennis court and has talked openly about his journey. She is currently ranked No. 129 at WTA and has won eight ITF Singles titles.
