Five-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swatek was reportedly given increased security during the Miami Open this week after an “aggressive” fan verbally attacked her in the tournament.
The tab has previously sent abused messages to the three-time reigning French open winner online, BBC Sport reported, citing Swiatek’s representatives.
The reported incident took place on Saturday during an exercise, and it ”[appeared] Being a direct transition from verbal aggression online to harassment in the real world, ”said Swiatek’s reps.

“Constructive criticism is one thing, and threats, hate opinion or even disturbance during training is another – this cannot be condoned,” said a spokesman for Swiatek.
“We take the security and security of all players and participants in the tournament extremely seriously,” the Miami Open said in a statement. “We are constantly evaluating any potential threats and taking any measure to respond correctly. To ensure the effectiveness of these efforts, we do not reveal the details of our security operations.”
World Tennis Association added, “Player Security is our highest priority. WTA works closely with tournaments and their security team on best practices for international sporting events to ensure that all participants’ security and well -being.
“There are extensive security protocols in place to ensure that any events are handled quickly and effectively. The details of these are not something we are discussing in public, but we are steadfast in our commitment to maintaining a safe environment for players and everyone who participates in one of our events.”
