Women’s tennis star Yulia Putintseva responded Monday after her spit with Maria Sakkari at Bad Homburg Open became viral across social media over the weekend.

Sakkari seemed to question how Putintseva shook his hand after their fight. The Greek tennis star won the match over Putintseva 7-5 7-6 (6). Broadcast caught Sakkari who stepped towards Putintseva’s side to exchange words with her. She was heard of saying, “no one likes you” and that she should look her opponent in her eyes under a handshake.

Putintseva published the clip on his Instagram account Monday and offered his own words.

“By the way – not that I’m interested – I shook her, as most women do,” Putintseva wrote. “It seems that some men are ‘squeezing the protocol’ that some men seem to follow.”

The incident began when Putintseva escaped Sackari’s hand at the end after the loss. Sakkari began to jaw in Putintseva, and Putintseva responded with a curtsy. The heated moment only escalated from there.

Sakkari turned to the incident in his interview after the match after Putintseva went against the dressing room.

“I don’t think she will invite me to dinner for the rest of our lives, but I don’t care about being honest,” she said via tennis.com. “I have very good friends and I go to dinner with them. Let me leave this and just say I have respect for her as a player, but that’s it.”

Sakkari is ready to meet Ekaterina Alexandrova in the round of 16 of the tournament.
