- Update allows owners to make sat-nav-visualization for a light cycle
- Red ambient lighting adds the futuristic effect
- Some customers feel the update is an ad for far
A recent Tesla software update gives Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck owners the opportunity to transform their visualizations in the car into light cycles and other scenes from the latest Tron: Ares film.
When owners go to the app -launcher and select Toybox, they will see a new Tron Setting that adapts the 3D navigation so that its standard vehicle icon appears as a light cycle, complete with subsequent lighting effects as you navigate the city.
The move was made in connection with the launch of the third film in the Tron universe, giving them with optional ambient lighting in the cabin also the opportunity to put the cockpit into a deep red tint to increase the feeling of sci-fi futurism as they run.
However, the update has been greeted with resistance from owners, some of whom have taken to Reddit to complain that the futuristic flashing sounds that come part of the update are annoying, while others feel that a business collaboration like this is a worrying sign of the coming things.

The comments on Electrek’s article are also particularly cursed, with a user claiming that car manufacturers pushing ads into cars would be “an irregular violation of a personal space”.
It is not known if Disney has paid Tesla for the recent film campaigns, but Elon Musk earlier hit Disney managers when they decided to advertise advertising on his social media platform X.
The Tesla founder called for CEO Bob Iger to be “fired immediately,” and added angrily “Walt Disney turns in his grave over what Bob has done to his company.”
But companies seem to have put their differences aside as themes from the Disney-produced film not only appear now inside vehicles, but the film’s promotional team also used a Tesla Optimus robot to get attention during a red carpet event for the film.
The humanoid -robot tried to ‘fight’ Tron: Ares Star Jared Leto, who provided some social media content.

While you activate Tron: Ares The theme is optional in a Tesla, it blurly blurs the lines between advertising and real addition of value to a product.
But the fact is that more and more car manufacturers are moving toward a Software-defined vehicle model where cars can quickly, easily and externally updated with over-the-air data packages.
Not only does this have the potential to add new features or ironing errors, it also opens the door to an increased number of subscription packages or ‘on-demand’ payments offered to the owner-something, which many of the major brands admit will be an increasingly important income stream in the coming years.
Perhaps where the owner is not willing to hand over monthly sums of money, they can be confronted with ads in the vehicle to make up the ‘deficit’, as is the way with many modern streaming services, such as Spotify and YouTube.
Last year, a story emerged that claimed that Ford had filed a patent for a system that would customize infotainment ad content based on several sources, including audio from voice commands and even location data.
Some jeep owners also reported that the then pop-up ads appear on their infotainment systems earlier this year, though the company said this was a mistake.
Whatever happens, these commercial bonds become more frequent, and as infotainment systems in the vehicle become an extension of our digital lives, drivers may be forced to stand with an increasing number of marketing campaigns on the road.
