But Texas entered the Ohio Stadium as the No. 1 team in the nation – and didn’t look like it a bit.
It took a long time for both offenses to get started as the teams turned the ball over on the downturns on their opening drive. The rising superstar Jeremiah Smith then had two drops for Osu on his next drive, but Buckeyes was able to find the final zone with about nine minutes left in the first half with a rushing touchdown on the fourth and goal. Longhorns put on each of their last four drives in the first half.
After Buckeyes went three-and-out to open the other half, Longhorns’ violation moved. But they were again stopped on the fourth down, this time right at the finish line when Manning tried to push to six themselves.
Ohio State again had to punt after only three pieces, but Manning returned the benefits of an interception returned to Buckeyes ’32. OSU came over the midfield, and on second-and-7 from Texas 40, Quarterback Julian Sayin Carnell Tate for the scoring to make it a 14-0 Buckeyes lead with 13:08 to go in the game.

Texas came over the midfield in an attempt to begin a comeback and Manning was rescued when what looked like an intercepted was ruled an incomplete passport after review. They entered the red zone, but a 4th and 3 went into the final zone fell to the grass. It was the third just fourth down that was not converted after getting their first in the afternoon.
In desperation mode, Longhorns marched again, and Manning finally found the end zone and hit Parker Livingstone for a 32-yard score with 3:28 to go.
Texas forced another three-and-out and got the ball back on their own 15 with 2:26 to go. On their second acting, Manning threw a perfect 30-yard pass, but they were unable to get another first down.
Manning went 17-for-30 for 170 passing yards, but 132 of them came alone in the fourth quarter. It was Manning’s first road start of his career, and it was definitely a tough task against what was perhaps the best defense in the country.
In his first game as a starter, Sayin went 13-for-20 in 126 yards.
The toughest test for Buckeyes may be in the books and they get a few tune-ups against Grambling State and Ohio University in the next two Saturdays.

Texas will probably also come back in their usual winning ways – they host San Jose State, Utep and Sam Houston State for the next three weeks.
But for both troops it is this Saturday that will be on their minds for maybe the rest of the season – and the playoffs.
