- AWS CEO Matt Garman shares his views on the future of AI
- Garman predicts major changes across “every” business and job
- The CEO says younger workers should look to constantly adapt and learn new skills
The CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) has said that workers around the world need to ensure they are constantly adapting and evolving to stay relevant in the age of AI.
Speaking to Man[X] conference in San Francisco, Matt Garman once again highlighted the huge impact he and his company expect AI tools to have on the world of work.
“AI is going to transform every business, every job, every way we work, every product interaction,” Garman said, “it’s going to have a massive transformation.”

‘More on the way’
Asked if he thought the potential of AI technology was being overhyped, Garman was in typically exuberant mood, noting “people ask me that all the time. I think it’s like one of the funnier questions I get.”
But when asked about ROI and success, Garman accepted that despite heavy investment and interest, some businesses will still fail.
“The last big bubble we had was the Internet bubble,” Garman said. “Last I checked, the internet is still pretty big. It’s not like it went away.
“There will be billion-dollar AI startups that don’t make it. I’m 100 percent sure that’s true. It’s been true for every VC cycle, and there will be some that will be the biggest companies ten years from now.”
Garman added that internally at Amazon, software developers report being about 4.5 times more efficient with AI, noting “that’s not an efficiency that people just give up on…And I think there’s more to come.”
Speaking of what’s to come, Garman said his advice to those entering the workforce today is to stay flexible and adapt to new situations.
“Perhaps the best skill you can learn is learning to learn,” he said. “Get new skills. Don’t assume that what you’ve learned now will be good for the next 40 years.”
“When there’s a technology disruption like this, it effectively takes all the business that’s out there, trillions of dollars of SaaS products and software products, and dumps them on the table, it says everybody has to win this again. So it’s hugely disruptive to the incumbents. But it’s also a huge opportunity.”
