More people feared missing on Friday after a passenger car threw himself into the Panjkora River after a collision with a coach in Khyber-Pakhtunwa Province’s top DIR district, local officials said.
The accident occurred in the Charkum area of the Upper Dir District, where the vehicle slid away from the road and into the fast-moving river after the influence.
Rescue teams and volunteers rushed to the place and began searching for the submerged vehicle and those assumed to be caught.
According to officials, at least six people who were injured in the accident were moved to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Recordings shared on social media show that the car is swept downstream, while spectators looked helpless from the river bank. The number of residents in the car remains unconfirmed.
The rescue effort continues under difficult conditions, with strong river currents and fading daylight that inhibit progress.
