Karachi:
Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated Cove Beach Resort in Hawk’s Bay Friday, the first beach town in Metropolis, created under a public-private partnership model (PPP).
While talking at the inauguration ceremony, the mayor declared that Karachiites no longer have to travel abroad for Premium beach experiences, as the city can now boast of its own world -class leisure destination. The resort, which has been completed in just six months, offers advanced facilities and is now open to the public.
The mayor described the project as a milestone performance for Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and a step towards modernization of the city’s infrastructure.
Wahab announced that another beach town is in the pipeline, which is likely to be developed in Ibrahim Hyderi or Malir, ensuring wider access to high quality recreational spaces. He emphasized that improving Karachi’s leisure and tourist sector remains a highest priority during his administration.
The mayor outlined several key projects aimed at improving Karachi’s viability and economic vitality, which includes cleaning 46 large stormwater drains to prevent flooding of cities under Monsun; Beauty of II Chundrigar Road, the city’s financial hub; Conservation of historical landmarks such as Denso Hall, Empress Market and Frere Hall; Development of a mangrove preservation park to promote environmental awareness.
The inauguration participated by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, City Council’s parliamentary leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad and various UC chairmen and officials.
In a separate meeting with the Sindhi Muslim Housing Society’s CEO, Mayor Wahab KMC land department ordered to take immediate action against illegal constructions and interventions on KMC-owned properties. He asked for weekly progress reports to ensure enforcement transparency.
Meanwhile, the mayor has formally written to the Federal Minister of Trade and Chairman of the Export Development Fund (EDF) Board of Directors, Jam Kamal Khan, who expresses deep concern about the continued neglect of Karachi in the allocation and exploitation of export development funds.
The mayor has called on the federal government to ensure that Karachi receives his rightful share of support and funding that corresponds to his critical role in Pakistan’s economy.
