The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly’s standing committee no. 38 on livestock, fishing and cooperatives has emphasized the need to establish a robust mechanism for monitoring fishing activities and ensuring transparency in the allocation of contracts.

A meeting of the committee was held under the presidency of MPA Sher Ali Afridi, attended by Arbab Muhammad Usman Khan, Ikram Ullah Ghazi, Malik Adeel Iqbal and Abdul Mumin. The committee discussed extensive issues regarding illegal fishing and unauthorized fish farming in KP.

The Committee emphasized the need for strong legal measures to limit these illegal activities.

Members called for a comprehensive strategy to ensure proper regulation, supervision and balance in fishing operations as well as a review of existing contracts where needed.

The meeting sought a report on situation in Tarbela and Khanpur dams for reviewing in the next session.

In addition, the meeting instructed that data from the last five years regarding postings and transfers in the fishing department will be presented during the next consultation.
