A court has decided that marriage to Dua Zehra and Zaheer Ahmed is valid and rejects a petition who tried to declare their Nikah (marriage contract) as false.
The decision was handed down by a judicial magistrate in Karachi East and rejected the placement of Dua Zehra himself. The court declared that if she is seeking cancellation of the marriage, she must turn to the appropriate legal forum.
Zehra had previously married Ahmed of his own will after the two met on an online game platform. However, she later filed a petition through her father to cancel the marriage.
The case has given rise to widespread public attention in Pakistan, especially after Zehra was originally placed in a shelter home after judicial decision due to her young age. She was later allowed to return to her family.
