- Executive producer Fabrice Navrez says The resurgence of the department‘s gameplay was refined for mobile
- Ubisoft also did a lot of work to make controllers compatible
- Navrez says The division is a good fit for mobile because it is “more tactical” than other shooters
Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence executive producer Fabrice Navrez is “very happy” with the mobile game’s touch controls, but says players can choose to play with a controller if they prefer.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming, Navrez said that the team at Ubisoft refined the mobile game’s “core” touch controls through multiple playtests, while also being mindful of players who want to use a controller instead.
“The main principle is to offer what gamers prefer. If you prefer to play with a controller, we’ve made one [lot of work] to make it compatible,” Navrez said. “It’s more or less the same control scheme as Division 2so if you are familiar with Division 2it’s easy to get in.

“Going back to the mobile touch controls, we did a lot of iteration on that front, did a lot of playtesting, got player feedback to make sure you can have the same level of control with a controller or even with a mouse and keyboard. It was all a matter of keeping the core gameplay first.”
The developer thinks so too The divisionwhich has been predominantly a console and PC series, belongs in the mobile gaming realm because the pace is “a bit slower than a classic shooter”, making it suitable for handheld play.
“It’s more tactical, you go from end to end. You have some time to observe the situation, choose your target, etc.,” he added. “So that pacing is already a good foundation for creating a good mobile game.”
The team also developed several iterations on the game’s “cover to cover shooting mechanics”, offering multiple ways for players to approach combat, including an option where they can automatically take cover. This simplifies the number of inputs required, making the game more accessible.
“At the end of the day, I think I’m very happy with the touch control we achieved,” Navrez said, adding that he personally prefers playing on mobile.
“I play like that, so I think it’s a good sign,” he revealed. “Actually, I’m a bit faster on touch than with a game controller. Maybe because I have hours of practice now, but I think it works pretty well. Like I said, it’s all about player choice. And here we have a lot of options to change the HUD to what you like, change the button size, opacity, etc. So it’s very complete on that front.”
The resurgence of the department is a free game now available on mobile devices. Ubisoft has confirmed that it’s perfectly fine The division universe with gameplay tweaks that allow users to play in shorter sessions at a time.
