The government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling climate change and promoting clean energy solutions in observance of International Clean Energy Day on Sunday.
Energy Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari highlighted the nation’s ambitious goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030. In his remarks, Leghari emphasized the central role that clean energy plays in achieving this goal.
“Pakistan is fully committed to promoting renewable energy and the Power Division is carefully formulating policies to provide affordable and sustainable electricity to consumers,” the minister said.
He acknowledged the challenges of the transition to cleaner energy sources and called for technical and financial support from nations with advanced clean energy technologies.
Leghari outlined one of the government’s key energy transition goals: converting 30 percent of fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. This conversion is critical to meeting Pakistan’s clean energy goals.
The government has already taken steps to support the EV sector, including a recent 44 percent reduction in electricity tariffs for EV charging stations aimed at attracting investment and promoting EV adoption.
