The hunting wives Season 2 is officially in production, which means more Akerman, Snow… and to wig is on the way.
When Sophie (Brittany Snow) arrives in town, she is quickly integrated into their lives by their main man, Margo (Malin Akerman). And although at first it seems like harmless fun, it quickly turns ugly and culminates in a diabolical finale. Not forgetting the obsessive romance that sparks between Margo and Sophie, just to make things a bit more complicated.
So what’s next for the binge-worthy thriller? Here’s everything we know so far about it The hunting wives season 2 from confirmed cast, expected release date, plot rumours, news and more.
The Hunting Wives Season 2: Is There a Release Date?
Hold on to your wigs, The hunting wives is officially back in production for Season 2, as confirmed by none other than Margo aka Malin Akerman in an official Instagram post in November 2025.
The production news follows the series’ rapid renewal less than two months after it premiered on Netflix. So it was inevitable that this day would come, but now we can actually make a tentative guess at a release date.
While there hasn’t been any official news, it’s a bit of a guessing game, but given that Season 1 reportedly took about 5 months to shoot, and comes out a year later, I’d predict we’ll be looking at late 2026, early 2027.
The Hunting Wives season 2: has a trailer been released?
Given that The hunting wives season 2 only started production in November, any official trailer drop is still a while away.
As with most Netflix shows, the trailer will drop about a month or so before the show premieres, so I don’t expect it anytime soon. When it finally arrives, I’ll be sure to update it here.
The Hunting Wives season 2: cast confirmed
While we don’t have much to say about a release date or trailer, we do know that the following cast will return at The hunting wives season 2, thanks to Tudum:
- Brittany Snow as Sophie
- Malin Akerman as Margo
- Dermot Mulroney as Jed Banks
- Jaime Ray Newman as Callie
- Evan Jonigkeit as Graham
- George Ferrier as Brad
- Karen Rodriguez as Deputy Salazar
- Hunter Emery as Deputy Flynn
- Branton Box as Sheriff Jonny
The body count of The hunting wives season 1 was high. Four in total met their end, and here’s the fair warning to look away now if you don’t know who those four people are.
Unsurprisingly, we imagine the following characters won’t be returning since they were killed off in Season 1, and that’s Abby (Madison Wolfe), Abby’s mom Starr (Chrissy Metz), Jill (Katie Lowes), and Margo’s brother, Kyle (Michael Aaron Milligan).
But here’s the interesting thing, in the Instagram post for Season 2’s renewal (see above under the release date), Katie Lowes is pictured in the photos. So whether there’s a flashback or mysterious return to her character, we’ll have to wait and see.
The Hunting Wives Season 2: Story Synopsis and Rumors
Full spoilers for The hunting wives season 1.
After a lot of drama (and death) in the Season 1 finale, there’s a lot of tying up in Season 2 from illicit affairs to outright murder, but thankfully the plan seems to be to do just that.
Thanks to Tudum, we know that the next episode will be a continuation of the story based on an original script, with this official logline: “Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new enemies force them back together. As they play their dangerous game, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
And discussing her hopes for Season 2, Brittany Snow told Glamour: “I would love nothing more than for Sophie to have a little bit more guidance and not be manipulated so easily, because once you find out your boyfriend is murdered, I think things change a little bit quickly.
“But it puts Sophie and Margo on equal footing in a lot of ways, which I find very interesting to explore, because now Sophie is also a killer. I’ll be interested to see how that dynamic plays out, and I hope she doesn’t forgive Margo, and it takes a lot more to get them back together.”
Sophie and Margo’s volatile relationship was the heart of the story, but with lots of body bags and no resolution from the afterlife for either victim, there’s still a lot to figure out.
And speaking to Variety back in July 2025, before Season 2’s official renewal, showrunner Rebecca Cutter shared some of her plans: “I think we wanted to do a little time jump. – not a year, but a time. By the end of filming, I realized that the two engines of the show are the whodunit and the Margo/Sophie relationship, and tracking how those spines intersect.”
She also added, “I think it would be smart to introduce a new murder mystery. But it’s early stages. I don’t know who dunit yet or who finished!”
Given that they’re now rolling the cameras on season 2, the whodunit and who got done should be cut and ready to go, and while May Cobb’s book of the same name formed the basis for season 1, the show has made some big changes from the very beginning. So it will be interesting to see where it leads next.
Will there be more seasons of The Hunting Wives?
It’s hard to say right now. With The hunting wives season 2 won’t go into production until November 2025 and with no confirmed release date on the horizon, speaking of season 3 seems to be a while out.
As always, though, we’ll keep our ear to the ground and keep an eye out for any smoking guns to update you here if we get any information.
