- The iPhone Air 2 may have two rear cameras
- This second snapper would apparently be an ultra-wide one, but Apple is only said to be considering that
- The screen and design of the iPhone Air 2 may not change
There’s a lot to like about the iPhone Air, but in making it so thin, Apple made some big compromises, which included equipping the phone with just one rear lens. However, the same compromise cannot be made with the iPhone Air 2.
According to the reputedly leaky Digital Chat Station (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone Air 2 may have a 48MP ultra-wide camera as well as its 48MP main camera.
It sounds like this is something Apple is currently considering rather than something they’ve decided on, but we certainly hope this happens as a premium phone with only one rear camera is a tough sell.
That said, we’ll take this with a grain of salt, as Apple doesn’t seem to be only considering this, a claim that contradicts another recent iPhone Air 2 leak, which again pointed to just one rear camera. Additionally, it may be difficult for Apple to add a second rear camera without making the phone thicker, so that would also be a consideration for the company.
Remains the same
In any case, Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone Air 2 will see few other changes, with it apparently set to once again feature a 6.5-inch 120Hz display, Face ID, a thin and light build, and the same general design as the original iPhone Air – apart from the possible presence of an extra lens, which you can see in the image they shared above.
However, we certainly hope that some things would be upgraded on the iPhone Air 2, so if everything remains the same, adding an extra camera would make sense.
Otherwise, the only real upgrade might be the chipset, and with the original iPhone Air already reportedly not selling well, any successor really needs more than just a power boost to turn things around.
Still, it’s early days for iPhone Air 2 leaks, as this phone likely won’t land until September, so there’s a good chance we’ll learn about other possible upgrades in the coming months.
