Bernhard Langer was a stroke away from the story on Masters Friday.
Langer, 67, needed to make couples on the 18th hole at Augusta National to stay on 2-over, stay under the expected cliff line and become the oldest player to cut in Masters History.
Langer hit the fairway on par-4 18, but his approach shot fell from the side of the green and rolled into a seating area.

When Langer went to his ball, he received a standing ovation from fans who greeted 1985 and 1993 Masters Champion. He announced that this year’s tournament would be his last competitive performance at Augusta.
Langer tiled his third shot just past the edge of the green, leaving behind a long -lasting pair of putt. It was good, but not good enough. It rolled right past the hole and missed the necessary pair narrowly to make the cut.
Langer tapped in for bogey and went away from the 18th green for the last time as a competitor to another ovation. As he walked away, he was greeted by his family and colleagues.

The two-time Masters champion was in a strong position to make the cut, but a double bogey on the 15th hole was a big blow to his chances of getting the cut.
Langer said he had a “terrible finish” when he referred to his miscues on the 15th and 18th holes.
Fred Couples, who has the record for the elders to make the clip on Augusta, also had a chance to rewrite his own record, but he also ended badly with a 4-over in the first two days.
Langer debuted in Masters in 1982 as Germany’s first participant in the prestigious tournament.
