The mummy rises again – and yes, Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz return for the next installment of the horror film series

  • Universal is reportedly developing a new film as part of The mummy franchise
  • It will bring back series stars Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz
  • Fans of the 1999 classic have reacted to the news with surprise and delight

Do you hear that? It’s the sounds of The mummy‘s fanbase celebrating the news that the horror franchise’s next entry will reunite us with its fan-favorite stars.

According to reports from Deadline, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Universal is reviving the film series once again. Even better, the entertainment giant has reportedly held talks with the show’s iconic leads Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz about starring in it.

If the pair sign on, it will reunite them more than 25 years after their last on-screen partnership. Frasier and Weisz starred as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan in the 1999 classic The mummy and its 2001 sequel The mummy returns. But while Frasier returned for the 2008s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon EmperorWeisz was not part of its cast.

Predictably, there is very little information about the upcoming film’s plot. Sources apparently told THR that it will be a sequel to the Frasier and Weisz-led films rather than a reboot of said franchise.
